Nacre wall piece

The graceful volumes of the resin surfaces reveal varying depths and hues as light and gaze move across them, while fragments of mother-of-pearl reflect on the surface, creating ever-changing expressions like living particles. These shifts blur the boundaries of perception, leading to a synesthetic visual experience. The four works, each differing in color and scale, are arranged along the circular space, forming a flow that envelops the room while maintaining their distinct individualities. Within the layers created by light and material, the works extend the sense of depth and dimensionality, revealing multi-layered expressions that change continuously according to the viewer’s position and perspective. The mother-of-pearl, a traditional material, gains a contemporary image and a new sensory dimension through its combination with resin. This bridges the past and present while offering a new aesthetic experience at the intersection of materiality and light. These works were specially created for the space at Sono Cam Hotel in Gyeongju, responding to its architectural context and atmosphere, offering visitors a gesture of welcome and a rich sensory experience.
